Steven Trolland
British Snowboard ChampionBeing a novice at competing I was unaware that I required an I.S.F licence and as I was travelling to the next race, with the help of Fabrice, a French racer I finished work early and we headed to Chamrousse, France and upon arrival I found out I couldn’t afford the required licence. Fabrice debated the issue and the officials agreed that I could still race but would be unable to gain any points. With successfully qualifying in the time trial I was able to race the next day. Being very short of time between races this meant I had to travel back to work, find time when I was working to prep my board on nightshift, travel back to the race the following day, and go with out sleep for two days and two nights. Under the circumstances I competed quite well and my Sponsors were delighted with the good coverage I received from Eurosport. Being the novice racer that I was, I thought that the British Championships was an important race and I trained as best I could and entered the race with the remainder of my sponsorship money. Only later in my career can I appreciate that although this race is good for the Country and for Sponsorship, this race does not contain F.I.S points. This point series is required throughout the rest of the National, European and worldwide races. I had secured a lift from friends but had to somehow find the money to contribute for fuel costs to Austria and back to France. Fortunately, friends who appreciated my riding style plus my efforts to work and train hard went round people with a ‘begging bowl’ and gave me what they had collected plus a good luck card. more>
