British Snowboard ChampionApart from competing in all the small charitable local races I entered another Giant Slalom F.I.S. race in Puy St. Vincent in France. Having to borrow a car and was accompanied by my good friend Craig, who spoke beginner French and could help me read the map, we set off. After eight hours of driving through snow blizzards and icy roads we stopped at a village hotel to ask directions but discovered that due to the poor visibility we had ventured into Italy over the Alps. We eventually arrived at our destination in the early hours of the morning and found a cheap hotel that was open late. After only a few hours sleep I prepared my board and trained briefly
before the race with another racer John Gillings, which I had met
at the British Championships. His parents were of a wealthy background
and could afford to pay for his coaching annually so I had hoped to
learn something from him. Stevens Diary
